Hi my name is Julie and I am a licensed Independent Clinical Social Worker.  I care deeply about my clients and want them to be successful in all areas of life.  I am here to help clients learn how to express their emotions in a healthy way and overcome the challenges life throws your way.  Outside of private practice I have provided services in numerous different settings.  I have worked in public and alternative schools, as a family counselor, child and adolescent clinician, as well as working with those struggling with addiction, the disadvantaged, and those with legal difficulties.  I always work to help my clients reach their individual goals in therapy and focus on what approach works best for each person.  It is important to me that client's feel comfortable and safe expressing themselves in sessions, and I work hard to ensure an open and trusting environment.

Therapy Approaches

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy is based on the concept that your thoughts, feelings, and physical sensations and actions are interconnected, and that negative thoughts and feelings can impact the way you feel and act.  The goal when using CBT is to change patterns of thinking or behavior that are behind the difficulties and so change the way they feel.

Strengths-Based, Solution-focused Therapy

Strenght-based approaches is a collaborative process between the person supported by services and those supporting them.  We see a person's efforts to survive as a strength that affirms their humanity and need for support and treatment.  Solution-focused is future-focused goal directed approach highlighting the importance of searching for solutions rather than focusing on problems.

Psychoanalytic & Psychodynamic

The goal of the Psychoanalytic approach is to better understand the unconscious forces that can play a role in current behaviors, thoughts, and emotions.  Psychodynamic approaches help with self-awareness and understanding of the influence of the past on present behavior.

Mindfulness

A type of psychotherapy that involves a combination of cognitive therapy, meditation, and the cultivation of present-oriented, non judgmental attitude.

Family Therapy

Therapy with the goal of helping family members improve communication, resolve conflicts, and find new ways to work together.

Play Therapy

The use of the therapeutic powers of play to help clients prevent or resolve psychological difficulties and achieve optimal growth and development. Through play therapy, children learn to communicate with others, express feelings, modify behavior, develop problem-solving skills, and learn a variety of ways of relating to others.

Dialectical Behavior Therapy

DBT provides clients with new skills to manage painful emotions and decrease conflict in relationships.  It focuses on providing therapeutic skills in mindfulness, distress tolerance, emotion regulation, and interpersonal effectiveness.
